As a child I became aware of a virtual world in the form of 3D and Holograms. I marveled at what we could create at that time. My gran had a glass block with a colourfull Hologram built in. I could stare at it for hours, turn it in my hand and admire it from every angle.
In my teens I focused on different prairies, living a life filled with adventure and fire lit nights under a cool starry sky. Sport, nights out in town and the occasional movie or music festival distracted me from the new advances in the virtual world.
That changed when I entered the Air Force. I became aware of virtual systems being developed for training. Later I donned the then cumbersome goggles of the FT5 Anti Tank training system; based on similar US systems and a smaller simulation for the Rooikat Armored Vehicle.
It was as if a long lost love had returned. I could not get Virtual Reality out of my mind.
I imagined a world where people from across the globe, donning slimmer wireless systems, could face each other playing all manner of sport or even just engage in friendly conversation. Of course my visionary system was not as bulky as current ones in use but then I am a Futurist and tend to slim everything down and I had a rather healthier view of how the technology will be used.
I was very impressed with the Samsung VR system which I used with my phone and bought a cheaper system to see how it could be used with lower grade phones without a Gyroscope, again the Samsung phone responding the best with an app like VaRs Player Pro and 3D Parallax both available in the App Store. I will soon feature both these here.
It is not hard to see why Virtual Reality is one of the fastest growing markets and I foresee especially cheaper, slimmer systems emerging to challenge some of the Bigger more established brands.
This is how I see the future of VR.
With VR and Holographic Technology becoming more merged,Museums can now be explored as never before. With simpler systems one could enter and discover the past in a whole new dimension, immerse oneself .
For those bound by illness and unable to move it could become an escape and even a help in the healing process.
It will become a motivational tool and a teaching tool as I saw it being used by the Military.
My greatest concern is that it will make humanity lazy and immobile but then its clear the industry has a similar concern.
There is so much more I will not discuss here and,
Enjoy your VR experience.
